Asparagus Bulgur Pilaf


You may have overlooked this Bulgur Pilaf in Trader Joe’s frozen section. But it’s definitely worth picking up!

If you’re not familiar with bulgur: it’s a delicious whole grain with a nutty flavor that’s made from cracked wheat berries. It has more fiber than brown rice and is high in protein and folate.

TJ’s Bulgar Pilaf is a delicious mix of textures & flavors, with fluffy bulgur, soft butternut squash, and creamy feta cheese.

We always think "outside the bag" in order to turn frozen foods into healthy, balanced meals. For this recipe, we’ve added additional veggies & plant protein for a satisfying stand-alone meal.

Makes 2 servings
All ingredients purchased @ Trader Joe's



  • 1 pack asparagus, chopped

  • 1 pack Bulgur Pilaf (frozen section)

  • ¼ cup slivered almonds



  1. Spray a pan lightly with oil. Add the asparagus and sauté for four minutes. 

  2. Add the Bulgur Pilaf. Cook for 7 minutes, or until all ingredients are warmed through. 

  3. Divide the meal into two servings* and top each serving with 2 tablespoons almonds.

  • If cooking for one: We like the “cook once, eat twice” method! Place half in a bowl for today and the other half in an airtight container and store in the fridge for tomorrow.
